We Jews have given a lot of great foods to the world like bagels, lox, gefilte fish, sweet brisket, and on and on and on. But did you know that Jews also contributed to the development of a tried-and-true member of the drinking food pantheon?
Take a look at this from the Guardian:
Like so much of the best of British food, fish and chips is a product of immigration. Portuguese-Jewish refugees brought their skills in the fish-frying department, and collided with their Belgian and French counterparts who knew a thing or three about frying potatoes.
So next time, you’re in a bar, ready to inhale your third or fourth (or 5th, 6th or 7th) beer and are set to enjoy a nice piece or two of fried fish, remember who to thank.
