Digging around the pantry last week in search of a simple dinner that didn’t require running to the store, I found this pouch of Trader Joe’s Spiced Soybeans that Janna had bought a few weeks back. I must admit, I was skeptical. I’d tried TJ’s curry in a jar and thought it was quite gross, and miles away from the Anglo-Indian brands of simmer sauces like Patak’s that you can find in many supermarkets.
Because of that, I had lower expectations when I combined the soybeans with some frozen peas and put it on top of couscous. Yet, I was very surprised by the outcome. The soybeans were really good. They were spiced very well, but not so aggressively that my girlfriend, not a huge fan of spicy foods, couldn’t enjoy them as well. Not only did she really like them, but so did I. And, considering all you need to do is slit open the pouch and microwave it for 90 seconds, it literally couldn’t be easier to make.
Additionally, it’s quite healthy at 200 calories per serving and chock full of fiber. So the next time you’re wandering the aisles of Trader Joe’s, I would recommend grabbing a package of these spiced soybeans.

I, too, discovered these last year. Delicious cold or hot !
Unfortuantely, TJ discontinued these in Fall 2011. so sad
